Bratz vs Mean Girls: Who are the Ultimate Queen Bees?

Okay, so I saw this “Bratz Mean Girls” thing popping up all over my feed, and I was like, “What’s the deal?” I’m a sucker for anything that mashes up two totally different things, so I figured I’d give it a shot. No clue what I was getting myself into, really.

Bratz vs Mean Girls: Who are the Ultimate Queen Bees?

First, I needed to get the goods, right? I dug around for some Bratz dolls. Luckily, I had some old ones from when I was a kid stashed away in the attic. Total blast from the past! Then, it was time to find my “Mean Girls” DVD. I knew it was somewhere around here, maybe collecting some dust, but I tracked it down.

Getting Started

I spent a good chunk of time just watching “Mean Girls” again, trying to figure out which scenes would be the best for this little project. The “Jingle Bell Rock” talent show scene? Classic. The cafeteria scene where they introduce all the cliques? Gold. So I made some notes. Lots of notes.

The Process

  • Step 1: I picked out four Bratz dolls that kind of, sort of, maybe matched the vibes of Regina, Gretchen, Karen, and Cady. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, work with what you’ve got, right?
  • Step 2: I started playing around with their hair and outfits. This was tougher than I thought! I was trying to get those iconic “Mean Girls” looks, but Bratz dolls have their own… unique style. There was some serious hairspray action happening. And maybe some scissors. Don’t judge.
  • Step 3: I set up a little “stage” using some cardboard boxes and random stuff I found around the house. My cat kept trying to “help,” which mostly involved batting at the dolls and getting in the way.

Then came the fun part, I filmed a bunch of short clips. It was basically me, moving the dolls around, trying to lip-sync them to the movie dialogue. I did lots and lots of takes to get some of the scenes to match my satisfication.

Final output

I stitched all the clips together, added some music. It’s not winning any Oscars, that’s for sure. But you know what? It was a ridiculously fun way to spend an afternoon. It made me laugh, and that’s all that really matters. Maybe I’ll show it to a few friends, see if they get a kick out of it. If not, oh well, it was fun for me!
