Today I want to share how I made a pair of beach sandals. You know, summer is coming, and I really needed something comfy for the beach. So I thought, why not try making my own sandals? It seemed like a fun project, and I was pretty excited to give it a go.

Gathering the materials

First things first, I needed to gather all the materials. I made a list and checked it twice, just like Santa. I went to a local craft store, and man, it was like a candy shop for DIY lovers!

  • Soles: I picked up some rubber sheets for the soles. They had different thicknesses, and I chose something in between, not too thin, not too thick, you know?
  • Straps: For the straps, I found some colorful nylon webbing. They had so many colors, it was hard to choose! I ended up going with a bright blue and a sunny yellow, seemed beachy enough.
  • Glue: The guy at the store recommended a strong, waterproof adhesive. He said it was the best for this kind of project. I hope he was right.
  • Tools: I also grabbed a pair of scissors, a marker, and a ruler. Just the basic stuff I already had at home, so that was easy.

Making the sandals

Once I got home, I cleared my workspace and laid out everything. I felt like a real craftsman, ready to create something awesome. I started by tracing my feet on the rubber sheets with the marker. Then, I carefully cut out the soles using the scissors. I had to make sure I got the shape right, otherwise, the sandals would be wonky.

Next up, the straps. I measured my feet and cut the nylon webbing accordingly. I decided to make a simple thong style, it just seemed the easiest. I glued the straps to the soles, following the instructions on the adhesive tube. I had to press them down firmly and let them dry for a while. It was a bit of a waiting game, but I wanted to make sure they were really stuck on there.

After the glue dried, I tried on the sandals. They fit pretty well! I was surprised how comfy they felt. I walked around the house a bit to test them out. The straps were holding up, and the soles were sturdy. It actually worked!

The final touches

To make them a little more “me”, I decided to add some decorations. I had some beads and shells lying around from an old project. I glued them onto the straps, creating a sort of boho-chic look. It was a bit extra, but hey, why not?

And there you have it, my homemade beach sandals! It was a fun and rewarding experience. I can’t wait to wear them to the beach. They’re not perfect, but they’re mine, and that’s what makes them special. I think I might even make another pair, maybe try a different style next time. If you’re looking for a fun summer project, I highly recommend giving this a try!
