Today, I was browsing the supermarket, and I saw a familiar brand – Palmer’s. I’ve been using their cocoa butter lotion for years, it’s the only thing that really works for my dry skin. But as I picked up the bottle, a question popped into my head: “Who actually owns this brand?”
I mean, I always just grabbed it off the shelf without thinking twice. So, when I got home, I decided to do some digging. I fired up my computer and started with a simple search.
The first thing I learned was that Palmer’s is famous for its cocoa butter formula. That part I already knew. But then I found out the company has been around for over 175 years! That’s a really long time. It started way back in the mid-1800s. I felt I should learn more about its history.
I dug a little deeper and found out that the original founder was E.T. Browne. He was the guy who started the whole Palmer’s thing. Makes sense, right?
The interesting part is E.T. Browne Drug Co., Inc. is not a person but a company. And this company owns Palmer’s. Mystery solved! I did a quick search on this company and saw it was established in 1971, which really puzzled me. If Palmer’s was established in the mid-1800s, how can it be owned by a company founded in 1971? It didn’t really make sense.
I kept researching and I learned that E.T. Browne, the man, passed away in the late 1800s. The company, along with the Palmer’s brand, changed hands several times. It was owned by different people over the years. Finally, in 1971, the company was bought by the people who own it today. They kept the name E.T. Browne Drug Co., Inc. Now it makes sense! I guess they wanted to keep the name for its history and reputation.
So, there you have it. Palmer’s, the brand we all know and love, is owned by E.T. Browne Drug Co., Inc. I discovered that a company with a long history, starting with a guy named E.T. Browne and after several change of hands in over 100 years, is now owned by another group of people who kept the original founder’s name. This was way more interesting than I expected!
It just goes to show, sometimes it’s fun to dig a little deeper into the things we use every day. You never know what you might find!
