Getting a Rolex Blue Z Milgauss: Where to Buy and What to Expect?

So, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and let me tell you, the Rolex Milgauss, especially that Z-Blue dial version, has been quite the adventure. I remember first laying eyes on it back in 2014 when it was released. The 40mm Oystersteel case felt solid, and that blue, oh boy, it’s something else under the light.

Getting a Rolex Blue Z Milgauss: Where to Buy and What to Expect?

I got my hands on the Milgauss 116400GV a couple of years ago. I was working on a project that involved some heavy machinery with strong magnetic fields. Everyone kept telling me to keep my watch away, and that’s when I thought, “Why not test the Milgauss?” After all, it’s famous for resisting magnetic fields, right?

Getting the Watch

Getting my hands on one was tricky. It wasn’t as popular as the Submariner or Daytona. I called a few dealers, and finally, one of them had it. Paid around 12 grand, which was a bit over the average, but I was impatient.

Putting It to the Test

  • First Day: Wore it to the site, and I was a bit nervous, to be honest. By the end of the day, it was ticking just fine. No issues at all.
  • A Week In: Still going strong. I even intentionally placed it closer to the machines a few times. Nothing.
  • A Month Later: This thing is a tank. I’ve been wearing it daily, around all sorts of magnetic fields, and it hasn’t skipped a beat. The Rolex Calibre 3131 is legit.

Everyday Use

Aside from its magnetic resistance, it’s a beautiful watch. The green sapphire crystal gives it a unique look, and that blue dial? It pops. I’ve gotten a few compliments on it, mostly from people who know their watches. It’s not flashy, but it’s definitely a conversation starter.

After several years of wearing it, I noticed that the Milgauss disappeared from the Rolex website. I thought it was just a website bug. But, I heard it was discontinued in early 2023. I couldn’t believe it! I felt both happy and sad – happy that I own one, but sad that such a cool watch is no longer in production.

Final Thoughts

Would I recommend the Milgauss? If you can find one and you’re into watches that are a bit different, absolutely. It’s not just a pretty face; it’s a workhorse. Plus, it’s a Rolex, so you know it’s going to last. Now, with it being discontinued, I feel like I’ve got a little piece of history on my wrist. I’m going to take extra good care of mine. It’s been a reliable companion, through thick and thin, or rather, through strong magnetic fields and back.
