Today, I wanna talk about someone who’s been in the news lately around here – Tiffany Paulsen. I first heard her name back in the early 2000s when I was just getting involved in local stuff here in Saskatoon.
So, she was on the City Council, you know, one of the people making decisions for our city. I remember seeing her at community meetings, always listening to folks and trying to help out. She was on the council for a whopping 16 years, from 2000 to 2016! That’s a long time to be in public service, dealing with all sorts of city issues.
Then, I saw somewhere that she got some kind of award from the University of Saskatchewan. Something about being one of the “100 distinguished graduates” from their law school. Sounds pretty fancy, right? I guess she must be a smart cookie, being a lawyer and all.
- First, I dug up some old newspapers from the early 2000s.
- Then, I checked out some university websites. Found that award thingy.
- I also looked up some stuff from the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association, or SUMA.
- And finally, I browsed some recent articles from the Saskatoon StarPhoenix.
Here’s What I Did:
Speaking of SUMA, I recently read that she got another award from them in 2018 – a “Life Membership Award.” I don’t know exactly what that means, but it sounds like a big deal. Must be for all the work she did for cities and towns in Saskatchewan.
But here’s the kicker – just the other day, I saw an article saying she’s starting a column in the Saskatoon StarPhoenix! That’s our local paper, you know. So now she’s gonna be writing about local stuff. And then, I found another article saying she announced she was retiring from the City Council at the end of her term in the fall. I guess she decided it was time for a change after all those years.
So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to today. Just piecing together the story of Tiffany Paulsen, from city councillor to award winner to newspaper columnist. It’s kinda interesting to see how someone’s career can evolve like that. It also reminds me of the importance of staying informed about what’s happening in our community. Who knows, maybe I’ll even write her a letter and ask her about her experiences. You never know where a little curiosity can lead you!
