Clothing Sale Tracker: Your Ultimate Guide to Smart Shopping!

Okay, so I had this idea to make a simple clothing sale tracker, just for kicks and maybe to save some cash on my shopping sprees. I’m no coder, but I figured, how hard could it be? I started by grabbing my laptop and opening a plain old text editor. I thought about what I wanted to track – mainly the item name, original price, sale price, and where I found it.

First, I started noting down items manually. Just like this:

  • Item: Cool Summer Dress
  • Original Price: 60 bucks
  • Sale Price: 30 bucks
  • Store: That one place at the mall

I did this for a few items, and it was okay, but I knew there had to be a better way. I mean, who wants to type out everything all the time? So, I thought about making it a bit more organized. Maybe use some kind of a table format.

Moving to a Spreadsheet

Then it hit me – why not use a spreadsheet? I fired up Google Sheets and made columns for ‘Item’, ‘Original Price’, ‘Sale Price’, and ‘Store’. Much cleaner, right? Now I could just pop in the details whenever I found a sale.

Here’s how it looked:

  • Item Original Price Sale Price Store
  • Cool Summer Dress $60 $30 Mall Place
  • Fancy Jeans $100 $50 Online Store

It felt good to see it all organized. I even added a column for ‘Savings’ and used a simple formula to calculate the difference. Feeling like a spreadsheet pro now! And you know what? I could even sort by the highest savings to see the best deals at a glance.

Thinking Bigger

But then I thought, what if I wanted to track more details, like the date of the sale or a link to the item? The spreadsheet could get messy. Plus, I really wanted to see a price history. That’s when I heard about this thing called GetSugar, which apparently shows you price history when you shop online. I never tried it, and 50 bucks feels a bit steep for something I was just messing around with.

So, for now, my little spreadsheet does the job. It’s simple, it’s free, and it helps me keep an eye on those sales. Maybe one day I’ll turn it into a fancy app or something, but for now, I’m pretty happy with my DIY clothing sale tracker. It’s not perfect, but hey, it’s mine, and it works!
