Get to Know Jonny Johansson: Acne Studios Creative Director

Alright, so, I wanted to share a little story about how I got into Acne Studios and its creative director, Jonny Johansson. You know, the guy behind all those cool designs. It all started a few years back, I guess you could say I was just a regular guy with a passion for fashion, but nothing too serious.

Get to Know Jonny Johansson: Acne Studios Creative Director

I stumbled upon Acne Studios when I was going for something. I remember seeing some people wear it, and I thought, “That’s different, I like that.” So I did some digging.

Turns out, Acne Studios wasn’t always about clothes. I read somewhere that it started in 1996. Back then, Jonny Johansson and some friends launched this thing called ACNE. It was a creative collective. Cool name, right? The letters stand for “Ambition to Create Novel Expression.” I loved that. They did all sorts of stuff, not just fashion.

It wasn’t until a year later, in 1997, that Johansson tried his hand at fashion. From what I gathered, he made some jeans, and people went crazy for them. That’s how Acne Studios, the fashion brand, was born.

Fast forward to my little adventure. I was in Stockholm, and I knew I had to visit the Acne Studios headquarters. I’d heard it was at this place called Floragatan 13. I got there, and the building was amazing. Minimalist, a bit industrial, but totally chic. Just like their clothes.

Inside, it was a whole different world. I saw designers sketching, people working on fabrics, and all these creative minds bouncing ideas off each other. It was organized chaos, but it worked. The energy was infectious. I felt like I was part of something bigger. It’s like everyone there was driven by this ambition, this need to create something new. Just like their name.

  • I got to see how they came up with their designs.
  • And let me tell you, it’s a process.
  • They experiment with different materials.
  • They try out new styles.
  • And they’re not afraid to take risks.

I didn’t get to meet Jonny Johansson in person that day. But I felt his presence in every corner of that building. It’s like he built this place where creativity can run wild, where people aren’t afraid to try new things.

From Garage Band to Fashion Icon

Here’s another thing I found out about Johansson. The guy used to be in a rock band. Can you believe it? A musician turned fashion designer. I guess it makes sense, though. Music and fashion, they’re both about expressing yourself, creating something unique.

So, yeah, that’s my little story about Acne Studios and Jonny Johansson. It’s a story about creativity, passion, and not being afraid to break the mold. And it all started with a pair of jeans. Who would’ve thought?
