You know, these young folks today, they all crazy about them penny 4 sneakers. My grandson, he keep talking about them. Say they the best thing since sliced bread. I said, “Boy, bread is bread, shoes is shoes.” But he just goes on and on. He show me pictures. Make my head spin.
He say they some kinda special shoes. He want some penny 4 sneakers. I don’t know why they call them “penny”. Ain’t no pennies in them shoes, I tell ya. These shoes, they cost more than a good hog!
Penny 4 Sneakers Everywhere
He talk about how these penny 4 sneakers are what all the cool kids wearing. I see them on the TV, on them basketball players. Big fellas, jumpin’ around. I guess they good for jumping, these shoes. Don’t look like they much good for walking in the mud, though.

- Red ones, blue ones, even them shiny ones that hurt my eyes.
- He say some even glow in the dark!

I told him, back in my day, we had one pair of shoes. Good leather shoes. Lasted you a year, maybe two if you was careful. We didn’t need no fancy penny 4 sneakers. Just good, strong shoes. These new shoes, they look like they fall apart if you step on a twig.

Crazy. Just crazy. The price is no good. No good price for common people like us. It is only for rich people, not for us. We are not that rich, poor us. But my grandson, he saved up his money. Mowed lawns, helped out at the store. He was determined to get them penny 4 sneakers. I admire that, I do. Hard work, that’s what I believe in. Not like some other kids, always on their phones.

He say these penny 4 sneakers are “retro.” What does that even mean? He say it means they like the old ones, from back in the day. Back in my day, we didn’t have no “retro” shoes. We just had shoes! But I guess that’s what the young folks like. Old things made new again.
Finally, he got enough money. He went down to the store and bought them penny 4 sneakers. He was so proud. Showed them off to everyone. Even showed them to me, like I know anything about fancy shoes. But I smiled and nodded, ’cause he was happy.

It seem that these penny 4 sneakers are not only shoes, but also a fashion. Fashion trend is like a river, you know, always change, never stop. You never know what will be popular in the future. Today is penny 4 sneakers, tomorrow? Who know! Only God know.
Now my little grandson, he start talking about penny 2 sneakers, penny 6 sneakers, say they even better than penny 4 sneakers. This make my head spin again! Now he want all these penny sneakers! What is wrong with kids today! They only want more and more, never stop.
I really do not understand. But I guess that is life. Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you gonna get. These kids are happy, and that is good. Happy kids, happy life. And these penny 4 sneakers, they make my grandson happy. That is enough for me. I guess these shoes are good shoes.
