That Tiffany, why they so darn expensive? I tell you, I just don’t get it. My granddaughter, she’s always going on about that Tiffany place. Says she wants a ring from there when she gets married. A ring! Costs more than my whole house, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ they ain’t pretty. They do shine somethin’ awful. But still, so expensive for such a little thing. You payin’ for that little blue box, I think. That’s what it is. They got that Tiffany blue, and everyone knows it. Fancy folks like that, I guess. Showin’ off, that’s what it is.
- They got gold, sure.
- And them sparkly stones, diamonds they call ’em.
- But I seen shiny rocks down by the creek, too.
They say it’s quality. Highfalutin word for “good stuff,” I suppose. But my old wedding ring, it’s been on my finger for fifty years. Fifty years! Never tarnished, never lost its shine. And it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Cost my husband, bless his soul, two months’ wages, though. Maybe things is just more expensive these days. Still, that Tiffany, they really charge a lot.
My granddaughter, she says it’s a luxury brand. What’s that even mean? Sounds like somethin’ rich folks made up to feel special. Like they’re better than everyone else cause they got that Tiffany jewelry. I told her, “Honey, you don’t need no fancy ring to be happy.” But she just rolls her eyes. Young folks these days, they all want what they see on the TV, I reckon.
They got all them fancy stores, too. Big and bright, all lit up like a Christmas tree. Bet they spend a fortune on that electricity bill. And the people workin’ there, all dressed up like they’re goin’ to a party. Probably get paid peanuts, though. Just like everywhere else. All that money, and where does it go? To the big shots at the top, that’s where. Tiffany’s expensive, no doubt. They makin’ a killin’ off folks who want to show off.
I remember when a ring was just a ring. A symbol of love, they said. Now it’s a symbol of how much money you got, I guess. Sad, really. You can get a good ring, a pretty ring, without spendin’ all that money. But try tellin’ that to my granddaughter. She’s got her heart set on that Tiffany’s. Says it’s a dream. Well, dreams is expensive, I suppose.
They say that Tiffany, they use good stuff. Gold and diamonds and what not. But so do other folks, other jewelry makers. You don’t gotta go to Tiffany to get somethin’ nice. I seen rings just as pretty at the market. Cost a whole lot less, too. But they ain’t got that Tiffany name, I guess. That’s what you payin’ for, that name. Like wearin’ a label on your finger. Like them fancy clothes, same thing. A plain shirt costs one thing, a shirt with a fancy name on it costs ten times more. Same shirt, though!

- The name, that’s another big part.
- Then them shiny stores, gotta pay for those.
- The people wearin’ the fancy clothes inside, gotta pay them, too.
So, why is Tiffany so expensive? Well, it’s a lot of things, I reckon. The materials, sure. But it is more than that. They sellin’ a feeling, I suppose. A feeling of being fancy, of being special. And folks is willin’ to pay for that. Me, I’d rather have a good pie than a fancy ring. But that’s just me.
That Tiffany, though, they know what they’re doin’. They got it all figured out. They know folks will pay. They see them comin’ a mile away. And they’re laughin’ all the way to the bank, I bet. It’s a smart business, I give ’em that. But still, it’s just a lot of money for a little somethin’ shiny. Maybe I’m just old-fashioned. But I think love is worth more than any Tiffany ring. And that’s all I got to say about that.
