Trying Out That Kate Moss Vibe

So, I got this idea in my head the other week. You know how sometimes you just feel stuck in a style rut? Wearing the same old stuff. I was flicking through some old magazines, saw some pictures of Kate Moss back in the day, and thought, yeah, she always looked kinda cool, didn’t she? Like she just threw stuff on and it worked. That effortless thing. So I decided, right, I’m gonna try and get a bit of that vibe myself.

First thing I did was actually try to figure out what her ‘style’ even is. Sounds simple, but it’s kinda all over the place. Saw lots of slip dresses, skinny jeans, blazers, those Hunter wellies, bit of leopard print, band t-shirts. The main thing seemed to be it looked like she didn’t care too much. A bit messy, rock and roll, but still chic. Not too polished, you know?

Next step, had a proper look through my own wardrobe. Honestly, it was a bit depressing at first. Lots of comfy stuff, not much rock ‘n’ roll. But I dug deep.

  • Found an old black blazer I forgot I had. Bit dusty.
  • Pulled out some skinny jeans. Haven’t worn those in ages.
  • Got a couple of plain grey and black t-shirts. Basic stuff.
  • Ankle boots. Yep, got those.

Didn’t have a slip dress, though. And definitely no leopard print anything. Wasn’t sure I was brave enough for that anyway.

Putting It Together

Okay, so I had a few bits to play with. Didn’t want to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, defeats the ‘effortless’ idea, right? So I started mixing things. Tried the skinny jeans with a plain tee and the blazer. Felt okay, maybe a bit too ‘officey’? Ruffed up my hair a bit, smudged some eyeliner on. That helped. Added the ankle boots. Getting closer.

Then I thought about the slip dress thing. Found an old silky camisole top instead. Tried that under the blazer with the jeans. Hmm, maybe? Felt a bit weird, like wearing underwear outside. But Kate does it. Maybe it just takes confidence?

This is the tricky part. It’s supposed to look like you haven’t tried. But figuring out how to look like you haven’t tried actually takes quite a bit of effort. Irony, eh?

I spent a good hour messing about. Tucking things in, untucking them. Rolling sleeves up. Trying different necklaces – decided less was more. It’s all subtle stuff.

Wearing It Out

Decided to wear the jeans, tee, and blazer combo out for coffee. Felt a bit self-conscious at first. Kept checking myself in shop windows. Did I look cool? Or just like I got dressed in the dark? But after a while, I kinda forgot about it. It was comfortable enough. Nobody really stared or anything.

The key, I reckon, is the attitude. You gotta just own it. Slouch a bit, maybe? Don’t fuss with your hair constantly. Just be.

So, Did It Work?

Well, yeah, kinda. I definitely learned a few things. You don’t need loads of clothes. Simple pieces work if you put them together with a bit of thought (or studied carelessness!). A good blazer, decent jeans, some basic tops – they go a long way.

Will I be dressing like Kate Moss every day? Probably not. It’s a look. And honestly, achieving that ‘I don’t care’ look takes more planning than my usual ‘actually don’t care’ approach. But I’ve definitely picked up some ideas. Might wear that blazer more often. Might even brave the skinny jeans again sometime. It was fun to try something different, shake things up a bit. Definitely got me out of my rut for a day or two.
