Okay, let me tell you how I tackled the makeup chaos in my bathroom. It was getting ridiculous. Every morning, the counter looked like a beauty bomb went off. Stuff everywhere, couldn’t find anything quickly. Wasting time, getting annoyed. You know how it is.

Figuring Out What Was Wrong

So, I stood there one day, just looking at the mess. Lipsticks rolling around, palettes stacked awkwardly, brushes just lying there. It wasn’t just messy, it was inefficient. I realized I needed a dedicated spot for the things I use every single day. Not the entire collection, just the daily essentials.

Making a Plan (Sort Of)

I didn’t draw up blueprints or anything fancy. I basically just looked at the space I had. There’s the counter, obviously, but it gets wet easily. And there was some empty wall space next to the mirror. That seemed promising.

I thought about different options:

  • A bigger makeup bag? Nah, just moves the clutter inside a bag.
  • A fancy spinning tower? Takes up too much counter space.
  • Wall shelves? Yes, maybe a small one.
  • Counter organizers? Definitely needed some of those.

So, the plan became: clear counter organizers for small stuff, and maybe a narrow shelf on the wall for palettes or taller bottles.

Getting it Done

I measured that wall space first. Didn’t want to buy a shelf that wouldn’t fit. Then I went shopping. Found some simple, clear acrylic trays and containers. Cheap and cheerful, does the job. Easy to see everything inside too.

Finding the right shelf took a bit longer. Needed something slim, not too deep, so it wouldn’t stick out too much. Found a simple floating shelf that looked okay.

Installation was the next step. The counter organizers were easy, just put them down. The shelf… well, that required tools. I got out the drill and the level. Had to find the studs in the wall – always the fun part, right? Tapped around, used a stud finder (eventually). Marked the spots, drilled the holes, screwed in the brackets, and popped the shelf on. Made sure it was level. Took maybe 30 minutes once I found those darn studs.

The Result: A Saner Morning Routine

And that was basically it. I put my daily foundation, concealer, powder, blush, mascara, and a couple of lipsticks in the counter organizers. The brushes went into a little pot I already had, placed inside one of the trays. My go-to eyeshadow palette and setting spray went on the new shelf.

It’s made a huge difference. Seriously. Everything I use daily is right there, easy to grab, easy to put back. The counter stays mostly clear. It’s not a showroom bathroom design, but it works. It’s practical. My mornings feel less frantic now, which is always a win.
