Getting Started with the Idea

So, I had this plain bag lying around. Good quality, you know, but just… blank. Looked a bit sad. And I was browsing online, saw all these fancy bags, the ones with the little horse logo. Thought to myself, maybe I could spice up my old bag. Just for fun, really. Not trying to fool anyone, just liked the look of it.

Figuring Out How

First problem: getting that logo right. It’s quite detailed, that little horse and carriage thing. I’m no artist, couldn’t just draw it.

  • Searched online for a clear image. Found a decent one.
  • Printed it out, scaled it to the size I wanted for the bag.
  • Decided a stencil was the way to go. Painting seemed doable on the bag material, which was some kind of fake leather, smooth enough.

Making the Stencil – The Fiddly Part

This took ages. Seriously. I got some plastic sheet, the kind used for folders, taped the printed logo on top. Then, got out my craft knife.

Cutting out the little details, the legs of the horse, the wheels… man, needed steady hands. Nearly messed it up a couple of times. Had to take a break, grab a coffee. Patience isn’t my strong suit sometimes. Finally got a stencil that looked okay, not perfect, but usable.

Prepping the Bag and Painting

Cleaned the spot on the bag where the logo would go. Just wiped it down. Then, positioning the stencil. Used masking tape to hold it down really flat and tight. Didn’t want paint seeping underneath, that would look awful.

I picked up some gold acrylic paint, thought that would look classic. Didn’t use a brush. Used a small piece of sponge instead. Dabbed the paint on gently. Did a thin layer first. Waited for it to dry, which felt like forever. Then dabbed on a second coat to make the color solid.

The Reveal and Final Thoughts

Okay, the scary part. Peeling off the stencil. Did it slowly.

And… it wasn’t bad! Honestly better than I expected. A tiny bit of bleeding in one corner, but you’d have to look close. From a distance, it looked pretty sharp.

It’s not the real deal, obviously. And I wouldn’t try and pass it off as such. But it made my boring bag look a bit more interesting. A fun little project. Took an afternoon. Would I do it again? Maybe, if I found another plain bag. It’s satisfying making something with your own hands, even if it’s just sticking a fancy logo on something.
