OK, so I wanted to get a handle on all the different kinds of women’s dress shoes out there. It’s a surprisingly big topic! I started by just jotting down everything I could think of, from what I wear to work to what I see people wearing at weddings.

My Dive into the World of Dress Shoes

First, I grabbed a notebook and started brainstorming. I listed out everything I could think of like “ballet flats,” “stilettos,” and “pumps” – the basics, you know? Then, I jumped online to do some more digging.

I used a search engine and typed in stuff like “types of women’s dress shoes,” “formal shoes for women,” and even “comfortable dress shoes” (because, let’s be real, comfort is key!).

I spent a good chunk of time clicking through different websites, mostly blogs and shoe store sites. I quickly realized there’s WAY more out there than I initially thought. I mean, we’ve got:

  • Pumps: The classic, I guess. They have a heel, but the heel height can vary a lot.
  • Stilettos: Super high, thin heels. Definitely not an everyday shoe for me!
  • Ballet Flats: These are my go-to for comfort. No heel, and they go with pretty much anything.
  • Loafers: Slip-on shoes, kind of like a more formal version of a slipper.
  • Oxfords: These have laces and a more “borrowed from the boys” look, but they can be really stylish.
  • Mary Janes: These have a strap across the top of the foot.
  • Slingbacks: These have a strap around the back of the heel.
  • Mules:No back at all, easy to slide in.
  • Wedges:The heel is one solid.

I started making notes on the different styles, what kind of outfits they’d work with, and even the materials they’re usually made of (leather, suede, fabric, etc.). It was actually pretty interesting!

My biggest takeaway? There’s a dress shoe for literally every occasion and every style preference. Choosing the “right” one really depends on what you’re wearing, where you’re going, and how much pain you’re willing to tolerate, I finished my research.
