Cute Colorful Sneakers: Rock the Rainbow Trend This Season!

Okay, so I’ve been seeing these cute colorful sneakers everywhere lately, and I finally decided to jump on the bandwagon and make my own! I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit of a process, but totally worth it in the end.

Cute Colorful Sneakers: Rock the Rainbow Trend This Season!

Finding the Base

First things first, I needed some plain white sneakers to work with. I rummaged through my closet and found an old pair that I didn’t wear much anymore. Perfect! They were a bit scuffed, but that was nothing a little cleaning couldn’t fix.

I scrubbed them down with some soapy water and an old toothbrush. It took some elbow grease, but they looked almost brand new after a while. I left them out in the sun to dry completely. This is important – you don’t want to start painting on damp shoes!

Gathering Supplies

Next up, I needed to get my art supplies together. I already had some acrylic paints from a previous project, so I grabbed those. I also picked up some:

  • Fabric medium: This helps the paint stick to the fabric and makes it more flexible, so it doesn’t crack.
  • Paintbrushes: A variety of sizes, from tiny ones for details to bigger ones for filling in larger areas.
  • Masking tape: To create clean lines and protect areas I didn’t want to paint.
  • Palette:Just used a plastic lid, anything will be ok to mix my colors.

The Painting Process

This was the fun part! I started by taping off the soles and any other parts of the shoes I wanted to keep white. Then, I mixed my paints with the fabric medium, following the instructions on the bottle (usually a 1:1 ratio). I used a plastic lid as my palette

I didn’t really have a plan, I just started painting! I went with a mix of bright colors – pinks, yellows, blues, and greens. I did some splatters, some stripes, and some little dots. It was all very freehand and messy, but that’s the look I was going for. I used different sizes of brush to add some detail in different coners.

It took a couple of coats to get the colors really vibrant. I made sure to let each coat dry completely before adding another. Patience is key here! It’s easy to mess up.

The Finishing Touches

Once I was happy with the paint job, I removed the masking tape. There were a few little imperfections, but I actually liked how they looked – it added to the handmade charm.

Finally, I sprayed the shoes with a fabric sealant to protect the paint and make them more water-resistant. I let them dry overnight, and… voila! My own custom-made colorful sneakers!

Honestly, I’m so happy with how they turned out. They’re super unique and add a pop of color to any outfit. And the best part? I made them myself! If I can do it, anybody can do it, you should try too!
