Okay, so, the other day, I had this crazy idea to customize a pair of shoes for a “red carpet” themed party. It sounded fun, and I figured, why not? I’m no professional, but I like getting crafty.
Getting Started
First things first, I dug out an old pair of plain white heels. I figured white was the best canvas. Then, I hit the craft store. Man, that place can be overwhelming! I grabbed some red fabric paint, a bunch of different-sized brushes, and some glitter – because, obviously, red carpet needs sparkle.
The Messy Part
I spread out some old newspapers on my kitchen table – learned that lesson the hard way after staining my coffee table blue last year. Then, I started painting. The first coat was super streaky, and I panicked a little. It looked… well, it looked like a toddler had attacked my shoes with a paintbrush.
I waited for the first coat to dry, which felt like forever. Then I added a second coat, and things started to look better. Much better. A third coat, and they were seriously red! I’d say painting them was the longest process.
Adding the Bling
- After the paint was completely dry (another waiting game!), I mixed some of the glitter with a clear sealant.
- I dabbed this mixture onto the heels and the edges of the shoes, trying to be all artsy and delicate. It was… messy. Glitter everywhere!
- I realized, a little bit of glitter goes a long way, and that’s totally fine.
The Final Touches
Once the glitter sealant was dry, I sprayed the whole shoes with a fabric protector. I figured this would help keep the glitter from shedding all over the place and maybe even protect the paint a bit. Plus it’ll keep them relatively safe when I put them away to store them.
And that was it! They weren’t perfect, definitely not professional-looking, but they were my red carpet shoes. And honestly, I was pretty proud of them. I wore them to the party, and they were a hit! Best of all, I got to tell everyone I did them all by myself.
