Okay, so I’ve been trying to revamp my work wardrobe, and I decided to focus on office skirts. I wanted to see if I could make them feel less…stuffy, you know? More “me.”

First Step: The Hunt

I started by hitting up some local thrift stores. I figured I could find some unique pieces and not break the bank. I spent a Saturday afternoon digging through racks. I found a couple of promising items: a classic black pencil skirt that seemed pretty basic and a slightly more adventurous pleated midi skirt in a dark navy.

The Fitting Room Drama

Trying stuff on is always a bit of a process. The black pencil skirt? Classic, but a little tight. It was a struggle to get in, and I could barely sit. The navy one, though? Way more comfortable. It had a bit of a flow to it, which I liked.

Experimenting with Tops

Next up, I needed to figure out what to wear with these skirts. I rummaged through my closet. I tried a few different things:

  • Basic White Button-Down: It was kind of predictable with the black skirt. The navy skirt looked better, more “business casual” than “corporate drone.”
  • Silk Blouse: This worked pretty well with both skirts. It made the black one look more dressed up, which was great.
  • Fitted Sweater: This one was a winner with the navy skirt. It felt comfortable and stylish at the same time.

The Shoe Situation

Shoes, shoes, shoes. The black pencil skirt practically demanded heels. I tried on some low black pumps, and it looked okay. The navy skirt was more flexible. I tried it with the pumps, some ankle boots, and even some clean white sneakers. The sneakers were surprisingly cute!

Accessorizing (or Not)

I’m not a huge jewelry person, to be honest. I kept it simple. A delicate necklace with the blouse, and that was it. For the sweater-skirt combo, I added a simple belt to define my waist a little. It did add something extra.

The Final Verdict

After a few days of mixing and matching, I realized I could actually create some pretty cool outfits with these skirts. The black pencil skirt is still a work in progress – I need to find one that fits better! But the navy pleated skirt? I’m totally wearing that to work next week with the sweater and ankle boots. It’s comfortable, it’s stylish, and it feels like “me.” Definitely a successful experiment!
